Running an online business can be very rewarding, as well as being very frustrating.
So what are the Pro’s and Con’s that I can see so far from a laptop/tablet lifestyle?
Let’s start with the Con’s – and get these out in the open straight away.
There’s no point in thinking that living this laptop/tablet lifestyle has no negatives – it does.
When you work at home then power shortages aren’t going to happen often, but that obviously depends where in the world you live, right?
Being a freelancer means working from a variety of potential locations, and relying on your laptop means that you need a power source.
Losing unsaved work, files etc could prove disastrous if a power cut hit suddenly.
2. You must have either a Wifi or a cellular Internet Connection
You need to have a reliable connection to the internet every few days. This will allow you to respond to emails, outsource and catch up on work that needs to be done.
3. At the beginning you will probably work long hours
That includes, researching your business tools, keywords, potentially create websites, advertising …. you are getting the picture, correct?
3. The “biggy”: MOTIVATION
This can be a big hurdle to keep control over. Because you’re on your own time, it’s very easy to become complacent.
Because you don’t have an office to go to and from work(so to speak), you can sometimes find yourself lacking the drive to get things done.
Yeah. Now this is the big downfall for me personally.
Ok, so I’m writing an article about a certain topic. I’m in Google doing some research.
All of a sudden, I find myself YouTube watching a completely unrelated video about gadgets or some travel video!
That’s how easy it is to get distracted, in my case anyways while working online.
1. Be your own Boss
You’ve created and run your own business.
Guess who you will have to answer to?
You! (or your wife/husband)
2. Take a Break
Or as many as you like.
It’s not like you’re being timed or watched, so you can simply get up from the laptop or tablet and go and do whatever it is you want.
If you don’t feel like working for the day, then you can just take it off.
You get the idea!
3. Location, Location, Location
For me it’s a dream. I can be anywhere in the world with my laptop or table, if I choose so.
I can sit on a beautiful beach on one of the Fiji Island, or one of the Hawaiian islands, or the Maldives etc.
Multiple times I’ve stopped off at a Starbucks and grabbed a coffee while I munched through emails and blog stuff.
Location possibilities are endless when it comes to your mobile office.
4. Tax Free
I am saying tax free which is really incorrect, better to say tax deductible.
Because it is YOUR business, and you have the correct corporate structure (please talk to your Accountant, tax attorney etc to make sure that you are set up correctly) your travels are deductible.
5. Money wherever you go
So all you need to have in order to get funds anywhere in the world while working online is a Paypal, SolidTrust or VX Gateway account, and a bank account that is linked to it.
